The remains of a catamaran motor launch was seen at Macauley Island March 2018 while the New Zealand Navy ship HMNZS Canterbury was passing the island. A marine biologist onboard suggested that the amount of marine growth on the hull would be about three months old. Also on the bow can be seen strops attached as if it was in transit on a larger vessel and perhaps washed overboard. No evidence of the name of the vessel.
